Award Nominations

Medal of Valor Award

The SCASRO Medal of Valor is awarded by the SCASRO Board, to a person who distinguishes himself or herself conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his or her life above and beyond the call of duty. The deed performed must have been one of personal bravery or self-sacrifice so conspicuous as to clearly distinguish the individual above his or her comrades and must have involved risk of life. Incontestable proof of the performance of the service will be exacted and each recommendation for the award of this decoration will be considered on the standard of extraordinary merit. 

SRO Program

For outstanding performance, student-oriented enhancement, school violence prevention, extracurricular programs or clubs, community support, and overall performance/dedication to the School Resource Officer Program.  Nomination should include a narrative explaining why the program deserves the award and letters of endorsement from the Sheriff or Chief, School district officials, supervisor, principal, teachers, parents, students, and concerned community members. 


Law Enforcement Admin

For outstanding performance in the administration of a law enforcement agency/School Resource Officer program.  Nomination should include a narrative explaining why the law enforcement administrator deserves the award and letters of endorsement from their Sheriff, Chief, supervisor, SROs, principal, teachers, students, or concerned community members.  Nominations should be made by someone other than the nominee.  

Educator of the Year

For outstanding support of the School Resource Officer program, school violence prevention programs, and overall performance/dedication as an educator. Nomination should include a narrative explaining why the educator deserves the award and letters of endorsement from their SRO, Sheriff or Chief, school district officials, supervisor, principal, teachers, students, or concerned community members. Nominations should be made by someone other than the nominee.  

Student of the Year

For outstanding support of the School Resource Officer program, school violence prevention programs, and recognition of their peer leadership qualities.  Nomination should include a narrative explaining why the student deserves the award and letters of endorsement from their SRO, Sheriff or Chief, school district officials, supervisor, principal, teachers, parents, or concerned community members. 

Regional SRO of the Year

For outstanding performance as a School Resource Officer.  Nomination should include a narrative explaining why the SRO deserves the award and letters of endorsement from their Sheriff or Chief, supervisor, principal, teachers, students, or concerned community members.  (The State School Resource of the Year will be chosen from the Regional School Resource of the Year recipients.) Nominations should be made by someone other than the nominee. 

Citizen/Volunteer of the Year

For outstanding support, donation of time/resources, or donations for the betterment of students and the School Resource Officer Program.  Nomination should include a narrative explaining why the citizen deserves the award and letters of endorsement from the SRO, Sheriff, Chief, School District Officials, supervisor, principal, teachers, parents, or concerned community members. 

The deadline for award nominations is March 31st
